Gottman Method Couples Therapy for Indian and South Asian Couples Across North Carolina
Relationships can feel especially complicated when your needs as a couple are impacted by cultural, religious, professional, and family expectations. You may care deeply about each other but feel stuck in patterns that neither of you knows how to change.
Maybe you’ve…
Had the same argument repeatedly without reaching a resolution
Struggled with religious or cultural differences in your marriage
Felt caught between your spouse and your parents or extended family
Had trouble balancing the needs of your relationship with academic or professional success
Felt pressure to maintain the appearance of a “perfect” marriage
I provide Gottman Method Couples Therapy through secure telehealth for Indian and South Asian couples in Cary, Raleigh, Morrisville, Charlotte, the Triangle, and across North Carolina.
Together, we’ll identify the patterns keeping you stuck and develop practical, research-supported skills to communicate more openly, manage conflict, strengthen trust, and reconnect as partners.
Why Choose the Gottman Method for Couples Therapy?
The Gottman Method is grounded in more than 40 years of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman on what makes relationships succeed or fail. It's structured: you'll know what we're working on and why.
Improve Communication: Learn proven strategies to improve dialogue, increase empathy, and resolve conflict more constructively.
Build Intimacy: Strengthen emotional connection, mutual respect, and affection to create a more satisfying partnership.
Create Shared Meaning: Get clear on the goals, rituals, and values that make you a team rather than roommates.
What to Expect from Gottman Method Couples Therapy
Your therapeutic process begins with a structured assessment that gives you a clear picture of your relationships’ strengths and challenges.
1. Initial Joint Session
Both partners attend. We cover the history of the relationship, the recurring challenges, the strengths, and what each of you wants from this.
2. Individual Sessions
Each partner meets with me one-on-one to provide individual background, family history, and anything that might be challenging to raise in a joint session.
3. The Gottman Relationship Checkup
A HIPAA-compliant, research-based online assessment developed by The Gottman Institute. This detailed survey analyzes key areas of relationship functioning, and provides a roadmap to the issues we need to work on most.
4. Feedback Session
We’ll meet all together to review the results of your assessment. I’ll provide the research bases for each area of relationship functioning, and together we’ll make a plan for what we need to work on.
Relationship Counseling Tailored to You
Our sessions will focus on building new skills for processing your relationship struggles. Together, you’ll learn to:
Manage conflict more effectively. Break the cycle of repeated hurtful arguments, and learn repair techniques that help you build understanding.
Restore trust. Heal from past hurts, including affairs and betrayals. Learn how to rebuild trust and emotional safety.
Deepen friendship and intimacy. Rediscover fondness, admiration, and restore a meaningful connection.

FAQs About Therapy for South Asian Couples
-
That’s a fair and important question. While I’m not South Asian, I have longstanding professional and personal experience with South Indian relationships, families, and cultural dynamics. I also bring an outside, objective perspective that can help you examine difficult patterns without taking sides.
As a multilingual person who is frequently the only person of my background in a particular setting, I understand what it can feel like to navigate cultural differences.
At the same time, I recognize that my experiences are not the same as yours. I remain aware of my assumptions, ask questions rather than presume, and invite you to tell me when you think I’m not getting it. I understand that South Asians are not a monolith.
I approach all relationships, arranged and otherwise, without judgment. My role is not to impose one cultural model of relationships, but to help you create a relationship that reflects your shared values and works for both of you.
