Are you experiencing repeated co-parenting disputes, or escalating conflict?
If you’re struggling with repeated co-parenting disputes or ongoing tension that affects your child, the court may recommend appointing a Parenting Coordinator to help implement custody orders and reduce the need for repeated legal filings.
As a licensed therapist and Parenting Coordinator in NC, I help high-conflict families manage their differences more effectively by facilitating communication, clarifying court orders, and guiding parents through practical decisions with less stress and greater accountability.
Whether you're a parent, attorney, or court professional seeking structured support in a complex custody case, I provide parenting coordination services that are child-focused, court-compliant, and backed by more than 25 years of clinical experience.
What is a Parenting Coordinator?
In North Carolina, a Parenting Coordinator is appointed by the court under N.C. General Statutes §50-90 to §50-95 to help parents in high-conflict cases carry out the terms of a custody order. Unlike therapy or mediation, parenting coordination is a structured legal process with clearly defined responsibilities and boundaries.
Parenting Coordinators are authorized to:
Help parents interpret and follow their custody orders
Assist with day-to-day decision-making within the scope of the order
Reduce confusion and hostility by improving co-parent communication
Make limited decisions when permitted by the court
This process supports long-term family stability by reducing emotional strain, protecting the child’s best interests, and avoiding repeated courtroom appearances.

How PARENTING COORDINATION workS
Schedule an Initial Consultation – Either the parent or their attorney can initially reach out to inquire about my availability to take on the case. I find Parenting Coordination is most effective when I hold a brief (15 minute) Zoom meeting together with both parties’ attorneys prior to appointment. This allows me to answer any questions they may have, and orient them to my process to make sure it’s the right fit for their client.
File an Order Appointing Parenting Coordinator. Your attorneys will take care of this for you.
Begin Parenting Coordination Services! I cannot begin PC work before the Order has been filed with the court. Once you (or your attorney) has sent me the signed Order, and I will contact the parties to schedule our initial PC Meeting.

By statute, a Parenting Coordinator can make decisions in the children’s best interests related to day-to-day parenting issues like exchanges, scheduling, and medical appointments. The specific areas of PC’s decision-making authority are determined by the appointment order. The PC’s decisions are legally binding unless overturned by the court.
